Cosmo Jarvis - 'Crazy Screwed Up La
I have to admit that, of all the singles I've reviewed over the last couple of months, the latest one to find its way to me probably held the greatest promise; not because it was from a band I knew or because it had come highly recommended, but simply because of the artist's name! The track was called 'Crazy Screwed Up Lady' and if that wasn't enough to catch your eye then wait for the name of the artist... Cosmo Jarvis!
Born Harrison Cosmo Kikoryan Jarvis (Names don't come much more impressive than that) in New Jersey, he grew up in Devon, even supporting his fellow Devon trio, Muse, at their...

Delphic - 'Acolyte' (Album Review)
This, the debut album by the Manchester electro band has helped these guys be tipped for greatness in 2010. And after listening I can honestly see why. This album is on mating terms with bliss! Having over looked Delphic at first, simply considering them another overhyped band the release of this album has proved me wrong. The album feels fresh and clean and is a breath of fresh air into a genre that is becoming crowded. This is a true dance floor album but you could just as easily put it on and totally relax. Many of the bass lines are reminiscent of 70s Manc band Joy Division, with the lads ...

Ellie Goulding 'Starry-Eyed (Song R
"Oh everybody's starry-eyed" and I think I know why - they've just discovered the fantastic new single from Ellie Goulding, perhaps one of the most exciting things to happen to music in a long-time. Ellie began writing folk-inspired music in her early teens but from listening to her latest single, 'Starry-Eyed', you'd struggle to find any sign of this influence in her now very characteristic sound.
Her charming yet haunting vocals seem to float eerily over this track, imprinting the melody in your memory within seconds. Ellie's guitar can be heard on the song, as well as drums and synth effect...

Twin Atlantic 'Lightspeed' (Song Re
I don't know what it is about Scotland at the moment, perhaps there is something in the water (or maybe the whiskey), but whatever it is there seems to be an incredible number of new bands appearing up North. Twin Atlantic, a quartet from Glasgow, are one such band and their Gaelic connection is definitely at the fore on their latest single 'Lightspeed'. On the band's website they describe their vocal performance of front-man Sam McTrusty as "dripping with gorgeous Scottish vowels", and although not my cup of tea, you have to admire the guys for sticking with their accent and making it part of...

Chapel Club 'Oh Maybe I' (Song Revi
Welcome to 2010! How about a new band to kick the decade started in style? Well London Quartet Chapel Club may be just the ticket; especially with their second single 'O Maybe I'! The band won over their own core following last year through a combination of energetic live performances and with their sorrowful yet addictive debut single 'Surfacing' and their latest offering doesn't disappoint!
As the song begins it feels melancholy, almost dreamlike, with the brooding bassline offset by the heartfelt and pensive vocals. However within seconds the momentum seems to build, with the guitar parts e...
